Canyoning in Madeira is inland: you descend a mountain river gorge using abseils, jumps, slides and swims. Coasteering is at the coast: you move along the rocky shoreline with cliff jumps, scrambling and swimming through sea caves. Canyoning is more technical; coasteering is more playful.
