It´s short and half the tour is made on the road, but make sure you are prepared to some exotic trails and crazy steep climbs in the Madeira´s biosphere reserve, rich in fauna and flora.
This bike tour will take place in the scenic north of the island, in the small village of São Jorge we will start to bike at 500m and climb along dirt roads up to 840m, with the goal to reach one of the top specials viewpoints of the entire island, with a stunning view over the deep green Laurel valleys and the blue ocean. As reward for the climb you have the possibility to ride down some of the most dense and green trails in Madeira and later down you will have the chance to make a stop to visit the only working watermill. On the way down before you reach the interior of the valley, riding some steep farmers roads, you will notice how good the cultivation of vegetables and exotic fruits is still strong in this area of the island, then take a deep breath in this luxurious environment and start the most challenging climb until we reach the remote village of “Ilha”; a worthwhile effort due to its beautiful surroundings. In “Ilha” we take a break to visit this typical mountain village and then we head back to Santana by road to visit the famous thatched houses before we finish in Faial at sea level, down by the old road always with the present of the stunning north coast view.

Accessible for the average mountain bike rider this tour is a mix with mostly dirt roads and asphalt, but make sure you are fit enough for challenging steep climbs and have a good brake control for some steep descends.
